September 15 - October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month. We begin our celebration by highlighting one of our beloved teachers. We hope you enjoy learning a little more about Mr. Rios and what his interests are.
We are highlighting this week: Mexico, Cuba, Chile, Peru, and Venezuela.

Why we Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson. It was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover 30 days beginning on September 15 and ending on October 15.
September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Also, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within these 30 days.

Read MoreMy name is Guillermo S. Rios, and I am very humbled to be part of the Hispanic Heritage Celebration at Bishop Lynch High School.I currently teach AP Spanish Literature, AP Spanish Language/ Culture, and Spanish II. I also teach classes at Dallas County Community College (El Centro) and the University of Texas at Arlington.
