The Bishop Lynch Choir Program Excellence at Every Level

The Bishop Lynch Fine Arts Department offers a comprehensive vocal music program, which includes opportunities for participation in vocal ensembles, as well as individual study. At every level of participation, students are introduced to sound vocal technique, sequenced skill development, and participate in concerts, festivals, and competitions, on the local, national, and international levels.

Choir Course Offerings

Junior Varsity Treble Choir - Designed to teach the fundamentals of singing and reading music. The emphasis is on good choral singing technique and developing the skills involved in being part of a performinbg group. Students participate in all major concerts and may participate in a spring competition. Open to all freshmen treble singers and those upperclass students with limited choral experience.

A Cappella Choir - Performance-oriented ensemble, consisting of singers who have completed Junior Varsity choir, or who have gained menmbership through an audition or placement by the director. While continuing to learn the rudiments of good vocal skills, emphasis is also placed on music as a performing medium, and challenging music from all historical periods is studied. Students often travel in the spring, both nationally and internationally.

Studio Voice Class - Independent study class for junior and senior choir members who wish to pursue more intensive vocal coaching - usually in preparation for creating a portfolio for auditions. Lessons are scheduled individually with the director, and a juried recital is performed at the end of the year.

Co-Curricular Choirs

Women's Select Choir - An elite group whose singers are chosen through an audition process, this group meets on Wednesday afternoons. Dedicated to performing music arranged specifically for treble voices, this choir has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC and at Lincoln Center in New York as part of the National Choral Festival of Gold.

Men's Ensemble - Comprised of the tenor and bass sections of the A Cappella Choir, this group rehearses primarily on Tuesday afternoons. Performing music arranged specifically for men's voices, the repertoire of Men's Ensemble ranges from classical works to those of a more contemporary nature.

Harmony Show Choir - Designed to showcase the singing and dancing talents of its members, this group meets on Thursday afternoons and performs a wide variety of music with a primary focus on Broadway. Students earn membership through vocal and movement audition, where confidence and stage presence are necessary components. The emphasis is on the development of fully choreographed productions.
