BL Experience
We believe students’ lives are enriched by engaging in challenges, opportunities and exploration far beyond the classroom.
When asked to describe Bishop Lynch High School, students use the words “welcoming,” “family” and “opportunity.” That is a reflection of Bishop Lynch High School’s vibrant and connected campus life where nearly 90 percent of students are involved in some type of extracurricular activity.
Our Traditions
Friar Week
Held at the beginning of the school year, Friar Week is a school-wide celebration featuring themed costume days and the first pep rally of the year!
Homecoming
BL knows how to do Homecoming right! From themed costume days, mums and garters, a spirit basket exchange, the crowning of a Homecoming king and queen, the big football game, and the Homecoming dance, there are plenty of memories made during Homecoming Week. There is also an annual alumni party and class reunions held that weekend.
Pep Rallies
The Friar spirit is off the charts at fall pep rallies. From band, brigade and cheer performances to fun games, football team remarks and the awarding of the coveted spirit stick, BL pep rallies showcase Friar pride (and high decibel meters).
Grade Level Retreats
Every year, each grade level participates in a daylong class retreat to promote faith, fellowship and fun. The senior retreat is held off-site at a conference retreat facility.
Freshman Rally
Held in April prior to freshman year, this is an incoming freshman’s introduction to BL student life where they get acquainted with their house and fellow classmates and learn about being a Friar.
Junior Ring Ceremony
Held in May, this BL tradition welcomes rising seniors as the new leaders on campus. Student rings are blessed and presented to the new blue shirt-clad students.
Senior Uniforms
Starting with the Junior Ring Ceremony, seniors are allowed to wear a blue or yellow oxford shirt as part of their uniform to signify their senior status.
Power Puff
The spring flag football tournament in Roffino Stadium is an annual favorite.
Senior Shirts and Skirts
On the last two school days of a senior’s Bishop Lynch journey, students sign one another’s blue oxford shirts and girls wear decorated uniform skirts that reflect their college choice.
Prom
The junior/senior prom is held at either the Perot Museum of Nature and Science or Union Station in downtown Dallas and features dinner, dancing and the crowning of the prom king and queen.
Senior Dinner
Seniors are treated to a themed dinner and special entertainment to celebrate their upcoming graduation.
Senior Sendoff
Prior to graduation, seniors gather in Roffino Stadium for dinner and a movie under the stars.
Holiday Sweaters/PJs
The Christmas spirit is infectious at Bishop Lynch. The halls – and the students – are decked out in their holiday finest (ugly Christmas sweaters and pjs, that is).
