Friars Mark the Canonization of Two Modern Saints

Following their canonization on September 7, Friars celebrated St. Carlo Acutis and St. Pier Giorgio Frassati with prayer, service, and community.

The freshman class participated in the annual Freshman Retreat on Monday, which centered on the Dominican pillar of prayer and the theme of holiness. With St. Carlo Acutis as their patron, students reflected on his words, “The only thing we have to ask God for, in prayer, is the desire to be holy.” Students began the retreat with a movie to learn more about St. Acutis. They also joined in practices central to his spirituality: attending Mass, praying the Rosary, spending time in Eucharistic Adoration, and building friendships rooted in faith.

On Tuesday, the Frassati House gathered to celebrate the canonization of Pier Giorgio Frassati with “Canonization and Cookies,” honoring their patron saint through a day of service. Partnering with Catholic Charities of Dallas, students collected donations for grab-and-go bags, which they packed in their mentor groups to support the hungry and homeless. Inspired by St. Frassati’s witness of joyful service, students lived out their faith in action. They ended the day gathered in the Atrium for fellowship over cookies.

These celebrations helped root prayer and service into school life, honoring two saints who continue to inspire young people worldwide.
