BLHS Senior Honored as WFAA’s Scholar Athlete of the Week

BLHS Senior Honored as WFAA’s Scholar Athlete of the Week

When Bishop Lynch High School Senior Hamilton Walker applied for consideration as a WFAA Scholar Athlete of the Week, he never imagined he’d be sitting down just a few months later in a TV studio with local sportscaster Joe Trahan. For Hamilton, the application process was an opportunity to hone his college essay writing skills and fine-tune his resume while reflecting on the impact of his time as a BL student-athlete.

“I didn’t really think of myself as someone worthy of being honored at this level,” shared Hamilton. “The process encouraged me to be more confident in my accomplishments here at BL and my ability to succeed in the future.”

Hamilton, who played football freshman through junior year and is the powerlifting team captain this year, received an email in late September notifying him of his selection.

Students are recognized by WFAA for this weekly honor not only for their scholastic and athletic achievements but also for their involvement in the school and local community. In addition to his dedication in the classroom and on the field, Hamilton is a BL Ambassador and a member of the National Honor Society. In his senior year, he has served as the president Mu Alpha Theta, the National English Honor Society Leyden Lecture Liaison, and the secretary for the BL's Best Buddies chapter. His love for service and mentorship shines through his roles as captain of his Lima mentor group, vice president of the BL Business Club, and the 11th grade president of Young Men’s Service League.

Joe Trahan’s Scholar Athlete of the Week segment honoring Hamilton will air this Sunday, Dec. 8 at 10:35 p.m. CST. Be sure to tune in!

Congratulations, Hamilton, and thank you for representing your Friar family so well.
