The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recently announced its 2024 National Merit Semifinalists, including two outstanding seniors from Bishop Lynch High School, Demetrius “Ryu” Ong and Nicholas “Nick” Reed.
Ryu and Nick are among a select group of students nationwide—fewer than 1% of high school seniors—whose exceptional performance on the PSAT during their junior year earned them the distinction of Semifinalist. To qualify, students must not only excel on the PSAT but also maintain a strong overall academic record, secure a faculty or staff endorsement, and achieve competitive scores on the ACT or SAT.
“Bishop Lynch is honored by the academic achievements of these two students,” said Principal Chad Riley. “In their pursuit of academic excellence, Ryu and Nick exemplify our Dominican heritage of scholarship.”
The Semifinalists will now advance to the Finalist stage, where they will submit applications for the next round of the National Merit Scholarship competition. Finalists will be announced in February, and from this group, 2,500 winners will be chosen between April and July.
Congratulations to Ryu and Nick on this significant accomplishment! We are proud of your hard work and dedication.
