Belonging Board Students Strengthen Leadership Skills

Members of the Bishop Lynch Belonging Board had a unique opportunity to develop their leadership capacity at last Friday’s Belonging Conference. Ten students, including new and veteran Belonging Board appointees, engaged in training and discussion alongside peers from Fort Worth Country Day, Hockaday, Greenhill, Ursuline, and host school Parish Episcopal School.

One particularly impactful exercise invited students to identify their unique leadership style through an evaluation and to learn about the strengths and challenges of their approach in small groups. Then, students were given the opportunity to solve a problem alongside peers with a range of leadership styles. Senior Isaac Boyles reflected on the impact of this activity.“It showed me that you need to have all types of leaders in order to get somewhere. Different perspectives allow you to arrive at a meaningful final decision,” shared Issac.

For senior and Siena House Captain Ava Sanders, the conference solidified her approach to House leadership.

“Through the day’s activities, I could see how my coaching style helps me to support the mentor-level and underclassmen leaders to be the next House leaders after I graduate,” said Ava. “I have a much better understanding of what leadership approach works for me as well as where I can improve.”

The BL Belonging Board is tasked with reinforcing Bishop Lynch’s culture of welcome through facilitating dialogue and engagement amongst their peers. They advise BL administration on student-focused matters and host the monthly Dine & Dialogue series on campus.
