  • First Mass tradition also welcomes new chaplain on holy day

It’s a rite of passage for Bishop Lynch students: new teachers, new classes, and getting back in the groove of high school. While there may have been some first-week jitters, hopefully much of that was gone as students filled the Championship Gym on Wednesday for something else new at the traditional first-week Mass – Father Edwin Leonard leading students in worship.

The new BL chaplain for the 2018-19 school year welcomed students and led them in getting the year off on the right note – in worship on an important holy day of obligation. Principal Dr. Chad Riley was pleased how students embraced the day and Fr. Edwin.

“Since today was the Assumption of Mary, I had the expectation that it would be a joyful celebration and I was very happy with the students’ demeanor at Mass today, especially since it was the first Mass,” he said. “I was impressed with their attentiveness and level of participation. I think it set an impressive tone for future school Masses.”
Along with responding well to Fr. Edwin, students were attentive to the homily and made him feel welcome in his new role serving the campus.
