Thanks to an innovation grant from Bishop Lynch High School, Amy Wheeler has a classroom full of new flexible seating designed to help students feel a sense of comfort and belonging and improve student engagement. Mrs. Wheeler, BL’s social studies department chair, already has a very interactive and collaborative teaching style that supports Universal Design for Learning. Now, she has the furniture to match.
Mrs. Wheeler’s classroom now features standing-style desks, swivel chairs, stools, floor rockers and adjustable desks, and she said the students love the flexible seating options.
“I love how students have choices on where to sit or stand to support their learning preferences. The new furniture promotes classroom community and student ownership. It also supports the new Project Based Learning pilot for my AP World History course,” said Mrs. Wheeler.
Congratulations to Mrs. Wheeler for being the recipient of Bishop Lynch High School’s innovation grant for 2022!
