J. Brian Walter is a member of the Bishop Lynch graduating class of 1981. He continued his education at Texas A&M University and the University of Dallas, receiving a degree in petroleum engineering and a master of business administration, respectively. Brian has worked with his family’s oil exploration companies since 1985 while maintaining a model of ethical business practices and philanthropy. In 1988, his vision of future technology manifested itself when he formed a software development partnership with two of his college classmates to write and sell petroleum engineering evaluation software.
In the past several years, Brian has given generously to his BL alma mater, sponsoring the Leyden Arts and Athletics Complex, as well as the St. Jude Guidance Center. During his career, Brian prioritized his volunteerism via a range of leadership positions with numerous professional, social and Catholic groups. Of special pride was his service as Grand Knight of his local Knights of Columbus Council #799.
Brian enjoys being active outdoors, whether it be hunting around the world, working on the family farm, hiking mountains, or training for an annual half marathon that he runs with his family.
In concert with his children Kimberly ’15, Whitney ’16 and Benjamin ’17, and his wife Karen, who just completed her second term on the BL Board of Directors, Brian has become very involved in the Bishop Lynch community in the last decade.
Brian is extremely honored to be an Alumnus of the Year and hopes to continue his involvement in the Bishop Lynch community for years to come.
