Why We Give

Mark Howard '85

Alumni & Current Parent

Mark Howard ‘85 is a Friar through and through. As an alumnus, a parent of two Bishop Lynch graduates and a member of the school’s board of directors, Mark treasures his family’s BL experience so much that he gives to help others have that same life-changing journey.

As a student and parent, Mark loved the welcoming and inclusive environment on the Bishop Lynch campus. Even living in McKinney when his children were in high school, Mark valued BL’s customized total formational experience enough to warrant a nearly hourlong one-way commute to school.

Mark was raised by educator parents with a pay-it-forward attitude. With the importance of giving to others ingrained in him at an early age, he does what he can to help Bishop Lynch achieve its mission.

“The unique atmosphere that BL offers can be a game-changer for families. You don’t know how a financial gift to the school can fully impact students and their families,” said Mark.

When it comes to Mark’s gifts of time, talent and treasure, he refers to a quote from Arthur Ashe that inspired his charitable giving philosophy.

“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”  Arthur Ashe

Current Parents

When we think of Bishop Lynch High School, we think of all the great years we had as students and as active alumni. We know how special it is to have met each other in high school and to get married years later. Bishop Lynch and our fellow Friars are our family. We give to BL to help our community to grow and thrive.  We want to see the school continue its excellence and for the students at BL to have all the great experiences and wonderful memories of an amazing high school.

Claudia and Mark Vasquez

Current Parents

Claudia and Mark Vasquez are proud Bishop Lynch parents to a Friar student. Before their son was even on campus, Claudia and Mark were big believers in Catholic education. Their Bishop Lynch experience has only strengthened their belief.

“Our son has really enjoyed Mock Trial, tennis and performing in the one-act play at Bishop Lynch. The BL mission resonates with us, especially the social justice component and being empathetic to the world around us,” said Mark.

Through their Legacy Gala and golf tournament sponsorships and capital campaign contributions, the Vasquez family has shown support to Bishop Lynch High School’s present and future – a present and future they are excited to be a part of.

Kaila Richards Alcantar ‘96 and Michael Alcantar

We’re proud to donate to Bishop Lynch. I graduated from BL, and Michael also attended a local Catholic high school, and we continue to believe in the quality Catholic education that BL provides. What we believe is equally important is giving back to our community. That’s a big reason why we donate - to give back to the community that has given - and still gives - us so much. BL and everything it stands for is simply a meaningful part of our family’s life, and we’ll always support its mission.

Parent Involvement

Parents play a big role in Bishop Lynch High School’s vibrant school community. While the students certainly benefit from active parental engagement, everyone wins when parents are involved: events are bigger and better, campus connections are more meaningful, amazing memories are created, and more funds are raised.
