Ruengmateekhun Takes Next Step in US Women's Open Qualification

5/21/09 - Junior Amy Ruengmateekhun took the first step in the qualifying process to compete in the 2009 US Women's Open to be held in July at the Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, PA.  Amy shot a 76 at the local qualifying event at Austin's Onion Creek Club.  This is the third straight year that Amy, the 2-time Dallas Morning News Player of the Year, has made it to the sectional qualifying round. 


Lady Friars Finish 2nd at State

4/20-4/21/09 - The Lady Friars golf team posted a final round of 358 to solidify their second place finish at the 2009 TAPPS State Golf Tournament held at Atoscocita Country Club in Humble, TX. 

Amy Ruegmateekhun and Erin Barrington both earned All-State honors with their top-ten finishes.  Ruegmateekhun , the 2-time defending champion, finished second with a 2-day score of 73-80-153.  Barrington, just a sophomore, earned her second top-ten finish by shooting a 88-82-170 and finishing in 7th place.  The team shot a two-day score of 716.  Other players making contributions included senior Lindsey Folse, sophomore Nicki Vance and freshman Ashley McConnell.  This was the Friars third top-3 finish at state in the last four years.

"I am very proud of our effort this year" said Coach Dunn.  He added, "It will be exciting to see how our younger players will develop during the summer and the fall. The experience and confidence they gained from this year will definitely have a positive impact as we look forward to next year".

Ursuline won the team title with a 661 and Emily Collins from FW Nolan won the individual title with a 72-77-149.

Lady Friars Qualify for State - Take Second at Regionals

4/6-4/7/09 - The Lady Friars qualified for their third state tournament appearance in the last four years with a second place finish at the TAPPS 1-5A District/Regional tournament at Sherrill Park.

The girls faced bitter cold and 50mph-plus winds on day one, posting a 354, which placed them in 2nd place after all scores were tallied.  Day two, brought better weather and better scores as the Lady Friars shot a 346 to secure the 2nd spot in the regional and a chance to compete for the title at the state tournament in Humble, TX.

The Lady Friars were led by junior, Amy Ruengmatekhun (75-75-150) who had to overcome a day one deficit to clinch her third straight district title and first regional title.  Sophomore Erin Barrington and Senior Lindsey Folse both earned All-District honors with their finishes.  Barrington took 7th place with score of 88-80-168 and Folse finished 10th with scores 91-83-174.  Other Friars competing in their first district competition were sophomore Nicki Vance and freshman Ashley McConnell.

The state tournament will be April 20-21 at Atoscocita Country Club in Humble, TX.

Golfers Compete FORE! a Good Cause

3/11/09 - The players were barely visible on the driving range as they prepared for the early morning start to the 2nd Annual Golf FORE! a Cure Tournament held at Twin Creeks in Allen.  The darkness soon dissipated as the golfers began scorching the course.  The Lady Friars were able to hold off 22 other teams to take home the trophy for the second straight year.  The team was led by Amy Ruengmateekhun, who shot 65-33 for an amazing 98, which won the tournament.  Sophomore Erin Barrington shot an impressive 72-34 for 3rd place and the teams second under par round of the day.  The team shot a score of 457 for the 27-hole tournament, including a school record 304 for the morning round.

The proceeds of the tournament are donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.


Lady Friars Give the President the Cold Shoulder

3/2/09 - With morning temperatures hovering in the 30's, the Lady Friars began their spring season by finishing 3rd at the 48th Annual Dallas Invitational.  The tournament, the oldest in Dallas, is hosted by Jesuit College Prep, was played on the President's Course at Brookhaven Country Club.  The club's new configuration provided extra challenges as the girls competed with a field of 16 teams including district rivals Ursuline Academy and JPII.  Junior Amy Ruengmateekhun captured individual honors by shooting an impressive 2-under par 68.  Senior Lindsey Folse (85), sophomore Erin Barrington (84) and sophomore Nicki Vance (113) each contributed to the overall team score of 350.  The Lady Friars continue their spring competition next week, March 10, at the 2nd Annual Golf FORE! the Cure tournament at Twin Creeks Golf Course in Allen.

Spring Tournament Schedule Finalized

1/22/09 - The Lady Friars spring tournament schedule has been finalized.  The girls schedule features a return to the Golf FORE! a Cure Tournament and the prestigious Dallas Invitational Tournament at Brookhaven.  Additionally, the team will compete in a district warm-up against top rated public school teams at Bridlewood Golf Club.  Below is the spring tournament schedule:
