Head Coach - Andy Zihlman
| Coach
Andy Zihlman,, a 1972 graduate of Bishop Lynch, begins his 29th season with
the Lady Friars and continues to bring success to the girls’ basketball
program. During the past twenty-seven years, Zihlman has reached many
milestones, including his 700th career victory, twelve consecutive State
Championships in 2000, eighteen Championships out of the past nineteen years,
along with a National Record for Most State Championships with twenty-six
overall (23 under the leadership of Coach Zihlman). Coach Zihlman served as Dean of Students for seventeen years and
was named Athletic Director in 2001. His professional affiliations include
the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, Texas Girl’s Coaches
Association, Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, National Catholic
Educators Association, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum
Development. Coach Zihlman has his Bachelor of Science degree in Health and
PE, his Master’s of Science degree in Health and Physical Education and his
Mid-Management Certification. In addition to his coaching and AD duties, he
teaches Drivers Education at BL. He and his wife Teena (also a Bishop Lynch
graduate of 1972) are the parents of Coleen ‘98,
Caroline ‘05 (both former Lady Friars), and Kurt '08. |
Varsity Assistant - Delaine
Taylor

Coach
Taylor begins her 11th year as assistant varsity coach. She attended LaPoynor High School where she earned All-District and All-Region honors for
4 years. She attended Trinity Valley Community College from 1991-93 where
she earned All-Region honors both years. She was also named to the
All-Region Academic Team both years. From Trinity Valley, she continued her
career at the University of North Texas, where she served as team captain.
Coach Taylor graduated from UNT in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree in
Kinesiology and a minor in Biology. She is a member of the Bishop Lynch
Science Department staff and teaches Biology. |
Junior Varsity - Michele
Longoria-Collum
| Coach Longoria enters
her 15th season with the Lady Friars and her third as the Head Junior Varsity
Coach. She was a member of Coach Andy Zihlman’s first girls’ basketball team
at Bishop Lynch 24 years ago. Coach Longoria graduated from Lake Highlands
High School where she earned All-District honors, as well as the LHHS
Sportsmanship Award. She played in college at both Texas Christian
University and the University of North Texas, where her team won the
Southland Conference. She has a BS degree in Journalism and teaches
broadcast journalism,
journalism, and yearbook. She and her husband Chris are the parents of three
children, Reese, Clare, and Nicholas. |
Freshman -
Ginger Mills Farrell

Coach Farrell
beings her fifth year of coaching for the Lady Friars as
the Head Freshman Girls' Coach. She was a member of Coach Andy Zihlman's
first girls' Varsity team, and graduated from Bishop Lynch in 1981, earning
All-District honors in both basketball and track. Ginger has a BS degree in
Early Childhood Education from the University of North Texas. She has been
the Athletic Director at St. Pius X for the past eight years and also holds the position of Safe Environment Director as well. Ginger and her
husband Tom ('78) are the proud parents of Rachel '03, Bridget '05, and Erin
'09 (all former Lady Friars). |
