Summer Greeting from Dr. Riley

Summer greetings to all those in the Friar community!  Pope Benedict XVI once wrote about the importance of rest and reflection during the summer months:  “During these quiet days of summer, let us thank the Lord for the many blessings we have received and draw ever closer to him in prayer, in fidelity to his commandment of love, and in communion with his Body, the Church.”  Summer rest and reflection are not just luxuries.  They are necessities!  While many families are busy with summer activities, let us also remember to take some time for recuperation from hard work and busyness so that we can faithfully continue the task of becoming the best version of ourselves that the Lord calls us to be.

I always enjoy hearing about what people are reading.  One of the books on my summer reading list is Barking Up the Wrong Tree:  The Surprising Science Behind Why Everything You Know About Success Is (Mostly) Wrong by Eric Barker.  I just finished a chapter about "grit" and how Navy SEALs and disaster survivors leverage this "grit" to keep going when they encounter obstacles.  Knowing that all of us encounter obstacles in life, their lessons about "grit" are useful to all of us.

Thank you to all those who have stopped by to say hello, introduce yourselves, and tell me what you love about Bishop Lynch!  It has been a joy to hear the stories about what inspires you about the Friar community and what excites you about its future!

Have a restful and reflective summer break!

• You must request your Eastfield transcript to be sent to your college through your eConnect account

- Bishop Lynch cannot send your Eastfield transcript. Only you can do this through your eConnect account or you can go to Eastfield and request one in person.

• If you need to request your Bishop Lynch High School transcript, please do so online . You can find this link by going to under Alumni and click on TranscriptsPlease contact our registrar, Pamela Malouf, for all transcript-related inquiries, rather than contacting your counselor.  The Registrar handles all requests for records and transcripts.  Please request all transcripts via the online transcript request form.  Transcript requests will not be taken over the phone.

ACT Accommodations

Students who have never previously applied for accommodations for the ACT must contact Mrs. Hublein in the Learning Center before the registration deadline.

Accommodations Plans For Students With Documented Disabilities

BL offers a limited number of accommodations to students with appropriate documentation. In order to meet the criteria of Bishop Lynch, College Board’s and ACT’s extended time testing policies, medical notes from a personal physician in the case of both learning disabilities and ADD/ADHD are inadequate; a complete psycho-educational evaluation is required, with both cognitive and achievement testing. Documentation requesting accommodations at BL must meet the following stated criteria used by the College Board:

  1. State the specific disability, as diagnosed.
  2. Be current (less than three years old).
  3. Provide relevant educational, developmental, and medical history.
  4. Describe the comprehensive testing and techniques used to arrive at the diagnosis of the disability (including evaluation date(s) and test results with subtest scores from measures of cognitive ability, current academic achievement and information processing.
  5. Describe the functional limitations supported by the test results.
  6. Describe the specific accommodations requested and state why the disability qualifies the student for such accommodations.
  7. Establish the professional credentials of the evaluator, including information about license or certification and area of specialization.

If your student has a documented learning difference, meets the documentation criteria and would like to write an Accommodations Plan for the 2017-2018 school year, please send two copies of the documentation by mail to the attention of Jan Hublein in the Learning Center, even if you have already previously submitted the evaluation to Admissions. Or, you may email the documentation to Mrs. Hublein as an attachment.  She will begin contacting parents for appointments beginning late July/early August. Please feel free to call or email:  214-324-3607 x 4132 or
