Approximately 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of United State high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.

Throughout its 53-year history, Bishop Lynch High School has participated in the National Merit program and to date, more than 355 BL graduates have been named National Merit Scholars. Bishop Lynch High School is the largest co-ed private school in Texas and has twice been named a Blue Ribbon School. A powerhouse in academics, athletics and the arts, BL has been awarded the TAPPS All-Around Trophy 13 times. Bishop Lynch hosts the largest Dual Enrollment program in the state, offering more than 50 courses a year including English, math, history, science and fine arts. The last three graduating classes have each taken nearly 3,500 credit hours with them to college, all earned free of charge for the student’s family while on the BL campus.

Recreational vaping is becoming widespread across the nation. The Guidance Department and Office of Student Affairs want to provide our Bishop Lynch community with details of this harmful activity and address our stance in handling this issue. Please join our departments for an informational meeting followed by an open forum for questions and answers.

 Feedback  for Francis

In October 2018, Pope Francis will host the next Synod on the topic of Young People, the Faith, and Vocational Discernment.  A “Synod” is agathering of Bishops throughout the world, called by the Pope, to reflect together on contemporary issues of faith and life. The word ‘Synod’ means “to walk together” as one Catholic (universal) Church.  In January 2017, Pope Francis wrote a Letter to Young People and the Vatican released a Preparatory Document with

questions for reflection, and asked that dioceses throughout the world answer those questions to provide feedback on their local experience. After being sent to Rome, this feedback will form the starting point for the Synod conversation in October 2018.

Bishop Edward J. Burns called delegations from throughout the Diocese of Dallas to gather for a Convocation on Youth, Campus, & Young Adult Ministries and Vocational Discernment as a way to offer feedback for Pope Francis's Synod. The Convocation consisted of three days of listening sessions occurring July 27-29, 2017 at St. Rita Catholic Church with different focus audiences including youth, young adults, pastors, ministry leaders, parents, volunteers, key stakeholders, and representatives from various faith traditions.  Catholic parishes, organizations, and other faith traditions sent delegations of up to 20 persons to represent the narratives of their individual communities.

However, the feedback does not stop with the Convocation. All are invited and welcomed to fill out a survey at https://www.feedbackforfrancis.com/share-feedback/.  Simply click on the icon that best identifies your demographic and respond to the specially curated series of questions.  All feedback, whether from the surveys or live Convocation, will shape the narrative of ministry to teens and young adults in the diocese of Dallas and help the Holy Father understand the young Church of North Texas

For more information on the Convocation on Youth, Campus, & Young Adult Ministries and Vocational Discernment or the feedback going to Bishop Burns and then Pope Francis, please visit www.feedbackforfrancis.com. For other questions or direct assistance, please contact the Office of Youth, Young Adult, and Campus Ministries.
