The Traveling Monstrance | Blessed by Pope John Paul II

Bishop Lynch High School April 24 & 25

On November 24, 2004, Pope John Paul II blessed six monstrances for use during the Year of the Eucharist for people to pray for an increase of vocations to ordained ministry and consecrated life. The six monstrances were then sent to the six continents of the world. One of these monstrances, designated for use in North America, was presented to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The monstrance has been sent to various dioceses around the United States and Canada to facilitate Eucharistic Adoration for vocations to ordained ministry and consecrated life. The Bishops’ Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations is grateful to Serra International for their generosity in facilitating this ongoing ministry. Thanks to Serra International, this traveling monstrance has traveled over 140,000 miles and has visited almost 100 different cities.

This monstrance will be at Bishop Lynch High School on Monday and Tuesday, April 24 & 25. Eucharistic Adoration will take place in the St. Catherine of Siena Chapel all day on both Monday and Tuesday.

Also, on Monday, Adoration will continue until 7:30 pm for those who may want to visit after the regular school day. Please note on Tuesday, the Eucharist Adoration will end at 2:30 pm.

All are welcome and encouraged to pray for vocations.

Blackfriars Spring production ... The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde

Lady Bracknell:  I have always been of the opinion that a man who desires to get married should either know everything or nothing. Which do you know?

Lady Friars program showcased at WBCA convention during Final Four

In a year that included a pinnacle of 960 career wins and a TAPPS 6A State Championship, Bishop Lynch girls basketball coach Andy Zihlman capped a monumental season as a premier speaker at the Women's Association of Basketball Coaches (WBCA) annual convention on March 31.

Held in conjunction with the 2017 NCAA Women's Final Four in Dallas, the WBCA conference was attended by thousands of coaches ranging from the middle school level to collegiate divisions including NAIA and the NCAA.

"It was an incredible honor to be asked to speak and demonstrate drills and plays that have made our program successful," Zihlman said. "Attending conferences is not only important as a chance to network, but also for coaches to learn what other drills and play sets other successful programs use. In order to stay competitive, we must remain students of the game and conferences such as this one are ideal."

Upcoming College 101 Seminars for Class of 2018 Students & Parents

Each summer, juniors transitioning to their senior year are required to take a two-hour College 101 Seminar that is designed to cover all aspects of the college planning and application process. In the past, we have conducted twelve seminar sessions in June and July from which students could choose, but with the opening of Apply Texas and Common Application now moving to July 1, many colleges have also moved their application dates up to align with the July 1 Apply Texas and Common App openings.

Thus, we too, are adapting to this change by moving our College 101 Seminars to five dates in the months of May and June, and parents are now invited to attend any of the five sessions. (Note: All members of the Class of 2018 are still required to attend, and will be required to verify their attendance at the College 101 Seminar they choose to attend)

All of the College 101 Seminars will be conducted in McGonigle Theater from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on the following dates:

Tuesday, May 16
Monday, May 22,
Tuesday, June 6
Tuesday, June 13
Tuesday, June 20

Please be sure to register as soon as possible – you can use either the Pick-a-Time registration link that you received via email from Dr. Iden, or for your added convenience, the following link: >>>

We have received college scholarship and grant notifications from several seniors, but we know that there are many more seniors who have received monetary awards from colleges and have yet to report those to us.  Please make sure that you bring a copy of any scholarship or grant award notifications that you receive to the Guidance Office so we can enter that financial data in Naviance.  We will include this scholarship/grant award information when we cite the achievements of the Class of 2017 at the May 20th Honors Convocation.

Seniors:  How to Let Us Know What College You Will Attend

Naviance is the place to let us know the results of your college applications and where you will be attending so that it can be announced at graduation.

•  If you did not complete or submit an application to a college listed under “Colleges I’m applying to,” please delete the college by clicking delete application.

•  If you have alternate plans other than attending college in the fall, please inform your counselor what you would like announced at graduation.

If you have not done so, please submit a copy of your birth certificate to Lauren Shirley in the Guidance Office by Thursday, April 20.  It is imperative that we have a copy to verify your legal name as we begin to process transcripts to be sent to colleges beginning this summer.

Please update your resume so it is prepared when requesting letters of recommendation from teachers. Also, submit a copy of your resume to your counselor.
