Honduras is the second largest Central American republic. It is comparable to the size of Louisiana. Approximately 90 percent of the population is mestizo, meaning it is of mixed European and American Indian descent.

Honduras was devastated by Hurricane Mitch in 1998. Some 5,000 people died, 1.5 million were displaced, and the country suffered 1.3 billion dollars worth of damage.

The Bishops of Texas decided to adopt Dioceses within Honduras following Hurricane Mitch.

The Catholic Dioceses of Dallas and Beaumont work closely with the Catholic Diocese of Trujillo, Honduras in order to help rebuild the country.

Students and chaperones from Bishop Lynch that participate in the mission join students and chaperones from Ursuline, John Paul II, and Bishop Dunne each summer for 10 days.

ROMANS 12:1-2:

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
